Colusa County Bus Crash AttorneysEight people were killed and dozens more were seriously injured Sunday, October 5, 2008 when a charter bus heading from Sacramento to Colusa Casino Resort veered off the road and rolled over. The accident happened at about 6:10 p.m. on Lone Star Road near Williams, CA. The California Highway Patrol confirmed eight people died and many other passengers sustained serious or critical injuries in this deadly Sacramento bus crash. According to the CHP, the bus was heading north when it went off the right shoulder and rolled over. Approximately a dozen passengers were ejected from the bus, which had no seat belts. The CHP also reported that the bus did not have valid license plates. The bus had greyhound markings but is not believed to be owned or operated by Greyhound. Rescue efforts were complicated by the waist-deep mud the bus came to a rest in as well as the fact that many passengers were unable to speak English and could not communicate with rescue personnel. The bus completely rolled over and was severely damaged. Crash victims were transported by ambulance and air ambulance to local hospitals, including Enloe Medical Center in Chico, Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, Oroville Hospital, Sutter Roseville Medical Center, St. Elizabeth Community Hospital, UC Davis Medical Center and Mercy Medical Center in Redding. The driver, Quinton Watts, 52, of Stockton, has been arrested on suspicion on driving under the influence. DMV records indicate that the bus driver was involved in a crash several years ago. The CHP, NTSB and local authorities are investigating the details surrounding the accident, and whether or not the bus was speeding.
